When it comes to sewing and textiles, my mum has been my teacher. Take a look at the latest Oppi project we've done together. Beautifully designed, handmade baby hats from organic and fairtrade fabrics. Perfect for little girls this summer.
Until recently I didn't realise the importance of the decision to only use organic, fairtrade and upcycled fabric to make Oppi babywear.
Join me as I share some of what I've learnt about the textile industry; an industry some are calling a form of modern day slavery.
Mozambique is seeing a drop in extreme poverty; and the appears trend is global. I've been learning more about the UN's aim to 'eradicate extreme poverty for all people everywhere by 2030', thanks to Hans Rosling's interactive graphs.
A little about me
I started Oppi in 2012 because I wanted to see if I could do what I love - sewing - and also help some of the children like those I'd met on my travels.
Starting a socially conscious business has led me to discover the huge injustices in the clothing industry. I continue to learn more about these and ways in which I can personally, and through Oppi, bring about some positive change.
I love to travel but my current adventure is learning how to be a mum! I am presently on maternity leave from a Bath architecture firm where I work as Brand and Communications Manager.
