About the designer
Meeting some of the beautiful, yet poverty stricken families in Mozambique during my travels left a huge impression on me. On my return to England in 2010 I’d spend hours at my sewing machine trying to make sense of things I’d experienced. In time my thoughts settled, and Oppi Design emerged.
Initially Oppi Design used the one-for-one model of selling baby shoes to provide new shoes for children in Mozambique. However, after my first giving trip I realised that these children needed more than shoes. That is why I chose to partner with Tutela Africa as they pioneer fostercare in the country. Through the care of a stable family environment and access to education, children have the opportunity to thrive and make a positive contribution to their community.
It was always important to me that the fabrics used to make Oppi babywear were ethically sourced. The more research I did into the problems within fabric and textile industry the more essential this became. It has now become a passion of mine to understand how we can find creative sustainable solutions to the problems within the industry.
As well as running Oppi Design I work as a Brand and Communications Manager. I've also just embarked on the wonderful challenge of raising our beautiful daughter, Evangeline.
